In the previous steps, you erased your Mac's startup drive and returned to the OS X Utilities window. You're now ready to complete the installation process by letting the installer copy all of the OS X Yosemite system files to your selected startup drive. Once everything has been copied, your Mac will reboot into Yosemite, and walk you through the final leg of your journey: setting up your admin account, migrating data from a previous version of OS X, and other general housekeeping tasks.

Once you locate the OS X Yosemite app, click its download button. You may be asked to sign in if you haven't already done so.

The Yosemite app file is in excess of 5 GB in size, so you may want to find something else to do while you wait for it to finish downloading. Make sure the USB flash drive you created in the step above is still plugged directly into your Mac. Don't use a USB hub or plug the flash drive into your keyboard or display's extra USB ports; instead, plug the flash drive directly into one of the USB ports on your Mac, even if it means disconnecting some other USB device other than your keyboard and mouse.

Restart your Mac while holding down the option key. After a short time, you'll see the Yosemite installer's Welcome screen. Select the language you wish to use for installation, and then click the Continue button. Select Disk Utility , and click the Continue button. Disk Utility will open, with your Mac's drives listed in the left-hand pane.

Select your Mac's startup drive , usually named Macintosh HD, and then click the Erase tab in the right-hand pane. Make sure you have a current backup of this data before proceeding.

You'll be asked if you really want to erase the Macintosh HD partition. Click the Erase button. The startup drive will be completely erased. You'll be returned to the OS X Utilities window.

Click the Continue button. The Yosemite software licensing terms will display. Read through the licensing terms, and click the Agree button. A panel will display, asking you to affirm that you really have read and agree to the terms.

While windows could be installed, much of it would not be functional without the bootcamp drivers, which we can get from inside OSX.

Even so, you can't get the OS to download? If this is not the case, please let me know. In this case, it is best to obtain the installation media so you can boot directly to it. If you have access to another mac, you can probably do this easily just by downloading the install package from the app store. You could probably also get help with this issue from the apple store. If neither of these help, you can probably still obtain the files from the recovery window.

Again, I'm trying to get my machine to respond like yours is, and I cannot duplicate your error. However, try going to the utilities menu just the first VO M for that and clicking on terminal.

When the terminal loads, enter "softwareupdate" and look at the output. This is mostly experimentation on my part, however. I wouldn't recommend windows on a mac unless you use virtual machines to install windows. Like the other poster said, try to obtain the installation files of Os x and install them using either a USB thumb drive or an external hard drive.

If another mac is nearby then download them and run the install. If not, then go to an apple store. Otherwise, I don't know what to tell you. I've only had to reinstall the OS once, and had no issues. Looks like the recovery drive is whipped out, and you don't have any way of getting mac os on your machine.

Best solution, take it in to an apple store, tell them what is going on, see if they can replicate the issue, and go from there.

Downloading Yosemite

I Know it's probably not what you want to hear, but that's all I can give you right now. On my new Mac, I can do an internet recovery. IF you want to install Windows 7, you can.
